An extended version of the group-and-knockout format that replaces the single-elimination bracket with a double-elimination structure. Teams earn their spot through group play, then continue into a two-bracket knockout phase where a second loss is required for elimination. TournaQ handles the full transition between phases automatically.

How it works

After the group phase, advancing teams are seeded into a winner's and loser's bracket. Teams drop from the winner's bracket after their first loss but remain in contention until a second defeat. TournaQ tracks bracket progression across both phases, managing group standings, advancement, and bracket placement in sequence.

Setup options

  • Number of groups and advancement spots
  • Group seeding method: random draw, manual, or ranked
  • Double elimination bracket size: 8 or 16 teams
  • Grand final format: one or two matches
  • Match format: independently configurable per phase

Best for

  • Larger events with multiple courts and a full-day schedule
  • Organisers who want fairness at both the group and knockout stages
  • Competitive tournaments where a single bad performance shouldn't eliminate a strong team
  • Formats with enough match time for an extended bracket
